Hypnosis for Pain Relief / Management with Robert Riddlemoser

Pain is a message to be dealt with. It may be directly related to an injury, impact, etc.; it may be directly related to the healing process (i.e. inflammation due to the body’s response). Pain may be a signal stuck in the open position. “Suffering” is an emotion. There is a use for pain but never a need for suffering. In fact, the simple understanding of the use of pain and uselessness of suffering can by itself create a 1 or 2 point decrease in SUDS.

Clients suffering with pain may be struggling with reaction, guilt, a why-me attitude—sensible or not. Hypnotherapy is a powerful means to address these issues in addition to any physical symptoms. Hypnotherapists typically spend more time with a client during an initial session than the client’s physician has spent with the client during his/her entire relationship. “Pain Management” is used by physicians to describe a medical specialty that involves medication. Drugs, including opioids, are first option though the side effects may not be tolerable to the client. Other clients may have a personal philosophy against drugs and prefer a different approach.

Interestingly, the medical community often gives up on pain patients because they believe “it’s all in the mind.” This is great news for certified hypnotherapists as the mind is our specialty—the mind is what we do. Through this specialized hypnotic process clients are able to tap into a powerful self-control or maintenance mindset. Acute pain relief is an option, as is glove anesthesia (useful for procedures, though not necessarily the most effective for chronic pain).

The client has to do the work—this may be a surprise to the client—because only the client knows what is tolerable to them. This program will teach you how to address the various issues and interpretations that will invariably come up in sessions with this type of client. You will also learn methods to ensure your clients’ success outside the office and how to effectively engage clients in the right treatment schedule for their unique needs.
