How Can Hypnosis Help Me With A Food Addiction?

Hypnosis is becoming a more popular treatment option for things like anxiety and smoking. However, the same principles used in those treatments can be used to help with food addiction, as well.

Hypnosis isn’t what most people think. Unlike what you’ve probably seen on television and in movies, you’re awake during a typical hypnosis section. Rather than being “asleep,” you’re in a state of deep relaxation.

But, how can that help you with food addiction?

Let’s dig a little deeper.

You’ll Communicate With the Subconscious

Hypnosis allows you to communicate with your subconscious mind, where your food addiction exists. Chances are, your addiction began because of a particular situation, or lifelong habits of comfort that got out of control.

Over time, negative thought patterns can cause you to develop an unhealthy relationship with food. You might start out by binge eating. Eventually, you’ll turn to food more consistently for comfort, or to deal with everything from anxiety and stress to depression.

Hypnosis will help you connect with that underlying or “root” cause. You’ll discover where your addiction stems from, and what you can do about that to overcome it.

You Can “Cure” Your Cravings

Food addiction isn’t necessarily about cravings. Everyone wants to eat certain things from time to time.

However, when you continue to give in to those cravings, they can become overwhelming. Like any type of drug or substance, the desire to “give in” can become so great that you can’t focus on anything else.

Hypnosis can help with that.

It can change your perspective on certain foods, so you crave them less. If you want to be “turned off” of certain foods altogether, it can help with that, too, by reducing the appeal of that particular food. That can be helpful if you have trigger foods that tend to cause you to binge.

You’ll Be More Mindful

Hypnosis can help to change your relationship with food by boosting your mindfulness when it comes to what you eat. Many people start overeating because they’re not thinking about it. Eventually, it becomes a compulsion.

When you undergo hypnosis, you can become more aware of the act of eating, and gain power over what you eat and the cravings you have. You’ll be more appreciative of everything you eat, and won’t give in to the triggers caused by your addiction.

Very quickly, you’ll find that food becomes more enjoyable. You’ll savor every bite, rather than eating excessively to “feed” your addiction.

You’ll Deal With Underlying Conditions

We’ve already touched on the idea that many food addictions are caused or triggered by other underlying issues. Many people start overeating because they’re trying to cope with something else, or “numb” negative feelings.

Hypnosis can help you deal with those underlying conditions, whether you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, or even issues that stem from childhood. Again, by tapping into your subconscious and communicating with it, you can bring a lot to the forefront that you haven’t thought about before.

While a food addiction might not seem as harmful as a drug or alcohol addiction, it can wreak havoc on your health.

Food addiction can cause rapid weight gain, put you at risk for diabetes and heart conditions, and severely impact your quality of life. Thankfully, you can be in control. You can fight back against your addiction, learn to appreciate food, and eventually establish a healthy relationship with it.
